The Arrival -- Honolulu6939 viewsMy parents met at Leyland Powers, a school of theater and broadcast in Boston (long gone, I'd guess -- Google comes up with nothing). They drove across country and then took a plane (shown) to meet my maternal grandparents in Hawaii. On the way, they got married in Nevada. This photo shows Birdie (my aunt), my father, mother, and grandmoter at Honolulu Airport, summer 1948. I can imagine it was an interesting arrival.

PanAm Boeing Stratocruiser 377 in Honolulu, Circa 19496939 viewsI did a Google search on this aircraft, N1025V. It was the first of 21 Stratocruisers delivered to PanAm (delivered on January 31, 1949). At the time it was called "Clipper America," although that doesn't seem to be the name in this photograph. (PanAm apparently had many aircraft called "Clipper America" over the years.) N1025V is now sold as a model. The real N1025V was sold to the Israeli Air Force in 1963 as a cargo plane, and last flew in March 1974.

Highland and Aberdeen Angus Cattle6888 viewsWe are gradually moving from the pedigree Highland cattle (long-haired, horns -- on left) to pedigree Aberdeen Angus cattle (black -- on right). Both produce delicious beef: the Aberdeen Angus matures earlier.

Kiko, Tapa & Marjorie in the Garden6806 viewsWhitecroft - Summer 2003. Marjorie in the garden trying to relax, but the dogs are having none of it. The www.dogshumping.com domain is for sale. It would make an unusual gift.7 comments

New Transax Offices in Tricorn House, Edgbaston, Birmingham6690 viewsThis was photographed in the autumn of 1987. We'd just rented offices on the 9th floor of Tricorn House in Edgbaston, and set about decorating them ourselves. Chris Wilesmith has the paint roller, while Peter French is looking for something. The room in the foreground became the authorisation centre, and the staff break room was behind the partition.

Berkshire Piglets Playing With the Tamworth6655 viewsThese Berkshire piglets are supposed to be in the next field, with their mother. They can, of course, escape in multiple places, and they prefer to pay with the slightly older Tamworth pigs.

Merlin -- A bit of Guernsey | Kobe6637 viewsWe recently purchased Carole, a pure-bred Guernsey cow, as our "house cow." The farmers who sold us Carole are getting out of the dairy business, so their bull, Merlin, was set to go to the chop. The Guernsey Cattle Society tells me Guernsey beef is delicious, so Merlin has had a bit of a reprieve. He gets to eat grain and grass and drink beer --- for a year.

The Cider Mill, Colletts Green, Powick, Worcester6605 viewsA photo (looking north, across Colletts Green Road) of the shrubs in front of the Cider Mill. These are overhanging the narrow road, and scratch our car if we are coming from the west (left) and there's ongoing traffic.

Poi Swirl Bread6529 viewsPoi Swirl Bread made for The Poi Company by Hawaii Star Bakery. This was Portuguese sweet bread "swirled" with purple poi bread. It made a delicious sandwich.
