Hmm, how do I get out of this?773 viewsLord Rannoch, our Highland bull, smashed through the thick (and, we thought, sturdy) wooden fence while we were watching to take on Ballet Cruz, an Aberdeen Angus bull. Poor move, Rannoch. This shows that horns are no match for a size and youth. Fortunately, only Rannoch's pride was injured. Zbig and Gregorz ran into the fray (sort of) and separated the two angry bulls.

A Highland Cow Having a Swig of Beer772 viewsOur beef cattle are raised in the traditional Kobe style -- they are fed beer and grain. Normally, they don't like the "fizz" in the beer, so prefer it if we pour it over the grain and let it sit for a few hours. But this was a hot spring day, and this cow quite enjoyed the cold beer right from the bottle.

Panting Highland Cow770 viewsI've never seen Highland cattle pant before. There was plenty of water in the two troughs, but they decided to pant instead.

Ow, that hurts!769 viewsLord Rannoch, our Highland bull, was quick to charge the fence --- and, to our amazement, he actually broke through. There were five of us there at the time, including our veterinarian to do a castration of a young Gloucester bull. What this photograph doesn't show is Zbig and Gregorz running around yelling --- and finally actually separating the two bulls before any damage was done.

Butter Wouldn't Melt in Their Mouths764 viewsThey look so cute, all lined up on a sunny Sunday morning. But two of these Highland cattle have proven to be impossible for us to catch despite hours of trying. You should see them jump the fences!

Bob Lawrence Trying to Lasso A Steer763 viewsBob is trying to catch UK302940 500041 --- he is the most wily, cunning Highland steer we've ever had.

Dinner Time762 viewsWe usually feed the cattle and the pigs separately, in troughs on opposite sides of the field. But today was "photo" day, so we fed them together. And they happily shared their feed.
