In Bed at 140 Dowsett Avenue1379 viewsMe (on the left), Shauna (the baby), and Nana. My guess is late 1955. This isn't the best photograph -- no faces showing. I've included it anyway because I thought the bedside table is interesting. I love the old dial telephone, the 1950's shoji lamps. But my favourite thing is the bottle of lager and cigarettes. I never remember my grandmother drinking --- but larger! How images can be shattered through the magnification power of Adobe Photoshop.

Nana Reading A Magazine400 viewsI am guessing that Baba took this photograph. I must have inherited this trait from him: I love annoying Marjorie by taking her photograph in bed, when she's trying to read or relax.

Two Picanha Steaks Cut From The Whole6432 viewsThis is the piece that Marjorie rubbed with salt. We have cut the steaks quite thick, and are about to put them on the grill.

A Frozen Fence243 viewsA November week-end in sunny Worcestershire, complete with frozen fence. You can see what Highland cattle do to a perfectly good fence!

Our Bedroom at the Burj al Arab -- Dubai378 viewsWith a spectacular view over the Arabian Sea. In the distance, they're constructing an artificial series of islands that will look like a palm tree. The palm tree can be seen from space. Nothing half-measure in Dubai.

Peepee and Brutus in Bed176 viewsDuring their stay here, Peepee and Brutus always slept together --- they preferred the bed on the floor of their suite, but occassionally slept in the cubby.

Marmadukes Luxury Hotel and the Four Poster Bed153 viewsFor some reason the management or decorator at Marmadukes Luxury Hotel thought the four poster bed (designed, apparently, by the guy who designed the beds in the Harry Potter movies) was the most important thing in the room. It filled the room. In fact, one of the four posts actually went up and into the antique chandelier. You couldn't use the single bedside lamp: it was behind a non-retractable curtain. Marjorie trying to read in the dark, in this hotel-from-Hell.

Marmadukes Luxury Hotel -- Trying to Watch TV in Bed122 viewsThis overwhelming bed also made it impossible to watch the single TV in the room from bed. Yet the bed was 80% of the room. The single TV screen was small, and you had to look at it through the bars at the foot of the bed. It was the most inconsiderately designed hotel room Marjorie and I had ever encountered, and the hotel management was absolutely the worst.

Marmadukes Luxury Hotel - The Four Poster Bed111 viewsThis shot shows how the huge four poster bed, that absolutely dominated the tiny hotel room, actually went up and into the room chandelier.

Marmaduke's Hotel, York and Impractical Beds137 viewsMarjorie looking through the rather silly bull's eye in the foot of the over-large double bed in our room at Marmaduke's Hotel in York. Please note the TV on the right in this picture. You can't watch TV from bed without looking through the bars at the foot of the bed.
