Speed Camera Partnership452 viewsI saw these folks from the Speed Camera Partnership blowing up balloons (hmmm). As their cameras threaten to take our photograph at unwanted times, I thought I'd take their photograph. They didn't appear to be speeding, but I just need to check the calibration of my camera.

The Mine in Dartmouth221 viewsThere is a big red mine on the sea front in Dartmouth with a coin slot. The brass plaque says that all funds go to The Shipwrecked Fisherman & Mariners Royal Benevolent Society, but the mine seemed full. As the mine is about a meter in diameter --- if it's full of coins it must be holding a treasure trove.

Battleship Aurora148 viewsOn October 25 1917 the battleship Aurora was ordered to take to sea. At 9:45 PM a blank shot fired from her forecastle signaled the start of the assualt on the Winter Palace, which is said to be the start of the October Revolution that led to the overthrow of the Czar. Statue of Liberty from the Deck of the QE2221 viewsArriving in New York City by large ocean liner is thrilling. This was a warm spring day, April 1991. It was the first crossing of the year for the QE2 and we were a day late because we encountered 55 foot waves in the North Atlantic. The Statue of Liberty is in the distance.

The QE2 and the Verrazano Narrows Bridge134 viewsSailing into New York harbour on the QE2 in April 1991. We are about to go under the Verrazano Narrows Bridge, separating Staten Island from Brooklyn. It has a centre span of 4,260 feet.

QE2 About To Sail Beneath the Verrazano Narrows Bridge157 viewsThe bridge separates Staten Island from Brooklyn. It has a clearance of 228 feet at mean high water, so hopefully we'll fit beneath it.
