Marjorie Enjoying a Mojito647 x angesehenWe had our first [url=http://www.bacardimojito.com/]mojito[/ul] cocktails in Havana, where they were invented. But the mojitos at the top of the Burj al Arab Hotel in Dubai were a close second.20. Dezember 2005

"Volcano" at Entrance to Burj al Arab Hotel2495 x angesehenThe water "volcano" at the entrance to the Burj al Arab Hotel has a real Las Vegas feeling.20. Dezember 2005

Burj al Arab Cocktail Lounge1612 x angesehenWe sat on a bit of a raised platform, and we could see Dubai itself through the windows from our perch.20. Dezember 2005

Our Bedroom at the Burj al Arab -- Dubai865 x angesehenWith a spectacular view over the Arabian Sea. In the distance, they're constructing an artificial series of islands that will look like a palm tree. The palm tree can be seen from space. Nothing half-measure in Dubai.20. Dezember 2005

Burj al Arab Hotel816 x angesehenRising from the Arabian Sea, photographed from the small bridge that is the only access to the hotel.20. Dezember 2005

Dinner at the Bab al Shams594 x angesehenWe went to a great outdoors dinner in a "fort" that had been created in the desert. Here's some not-so-flat flatbrad and some great cheese.20. Dezember 2005

Bab al Shams Buffet1160 x angesehenThe dinner buffet was quite spectacular. On the evening we visited, the desert "fort" was not very crowded, and most of the guests ate early.20. Dezember 2005

Burj al Arab Cocktail Lounge5411 x angesehenThis colourful cocktail lounge actually sticks out from near the top of the Burj al Arab hotel. So we were actually hundreds of feet above the Arabian Sea.20. Dezember 2005
burj-breakfast.jpg
Breakfast at the Burj al Arab Hotel5472 x angesehenMarjorie having breakfast. We were surrounded by plants from Hawaii (or from tropical islands) like the naupaka. The poor things were struggling: I suspect the humidity is too low in Dubai, or it's too hot -- or both.20. Dezember 2005
burj-lobby.jpg
Atrium of Burj al Arab Hotel5407 x angesehenPhotographed from the lower lobby, looking up through the fountains and the large gold columns. They love gold in the Burj al Arab!20. Dezember 2005

Craig and Marjorie Before Dinner1281 x angesehenI just held the camera out with one hand and pressed the shutter. My foot really hurt on this whole trip, but if we didn't take the trip ("bought" with British Airways miles) by December 1, we were told we'd lose it. So I took golf carts everywhere, or sat by the pool. Easy, peasy in Dubai.20. Dezember 2005

Burj al Arab Hotel -- Dubai10113 x angesehenPhotographed from the beach at the Madinat Jumeirah. The Burj al Arab -- Tower of the Arabs -- rises above the Arabian Sea, and was built to look like a sail. The right side of the hotel is made from Kevlar, the bullet-proof material. Look at the crowd on the beach.20. Dezember 2005
