Magnolia With Flying Insect457 viewsI love magnolias. The only problem is that these huge flowers seem to fall apart: in doing so they avoid being cut from the tree and put in a vase. Wonderful big petals, and a great smell that, at least in this case, attracted a small flying insect of some sort.Aug 17, 2005

Whitecroft Sunset - 5 August 2005552 viewsOur neighbor farmer, Thomas Hawkins, planted a cereal crop on the field next to Whitecroft. With it all rolled up nicely into bundles, Marjorie, Tapa, and I went to have a look at the big rolls at sunset. Whitecroft is just visible in the trees.Aug 05, 2005

The Tewkesbury Ferry519 viewsThe other day, when coming home on the M50, I spotted a sign to the ferry. The ferry? Today we went to have a look, and there really is a ferry that runs several times a day from this beautiful spot on the River Avon (actually near the motorway) to Tewkesbury. That's Bredon Hill in the background. Aug 01, 2005

Repairing the Non-Return Valve - Whitecroft Track565 viewsWe had problems on Friday and Saturday because, without notice, Severn Trent needed to replace the non-return sewer valve. Apparently they couldn't inspect it in March because they couldn't open the manhole cover. But nothing was done, until our neighbour's house flooded with sewage. Looks like this guy got the manhole cover open! July 29 2005Jul 31, 2005

Yellow-Jacket Wasp554 viewsWe seem to have a wasps' next in the ground next to Kea's and Pau's bench. I took about a dozen photos --- this is the only one where the wasp is in focus. There's actually a guide on the internet to tell you what the markings mean. I think they mean "nasty -- avoid." Apparently you can freeze the nest, or pour boiling water down the opening. As if!Jul 23, 2005

Marjorie Showing Off Her Tattoo563 viewsA warm summer afternoon in the garden, Whitecroft. Taking a brief break -- we spent the day happily chasing dogs around the garden, playing with the hose, etc. Don't get to do much of that in England!Jul 17, 2005
