Gloucester Bull824 viewsOur Gloucester cow, Betty, is expecting her first child shortly. The Gloucester breed has quite an interesting story: please see their society's website.

Dubarry Boots7125 viewsThe Dubarry folks sell their waterproof boots by standing in a little tub of water during most of the show. They're also good at serving chilled champagne.

Award Winning Chicken738 viewsThe gorgon who yelled at me about taking photos in the poultry tent thought that I would "stress" the birds. I would suggest that putting them in a small cage in a hot tent filled with other unfamiliar chickens and ducks and even turkeys, and then add thousands of people, would stress them more than a 1/100 exposure. Does this guy look stressed?

Award Winning Eggs672 viewsJust after I took this photograph, a gorgon came running up to me to ask if I had permission to take photos. I said "no," but I explained I was a Life Governor of the Society, and had taken photos at the show for years. I said if I needed permission, a simple sign or courteous comment would be appreciated. I'm 56 years old: far too old to be yelled at by petty functionaries guarding eggs.

Crying Highland Calf933 viewsThis is the second time in the past few days I've actually seen a calf cry. I suppose the water is to clear out their eyes (it's very hot, and I'm sure the pollen count is high) --- but it's sure sad to see them crying.
