The Laurels on Selma Avenue - Hollywood222 viewsWhen Marcia and I were first married (1971) we lived at The Laurels at 8017 Selma Avenue in Hollywood --- at the time near Schwab's Pharmacy on Sunset Boulevard. Our apartment was in the upper right hand corner of this California pink building. When we drove by it in 2001 --- some 30 years later --- nothing had changed.

We went to Crufts today, and there smiling from Emily Burrowes booth was a large painting of a bull terrier. It looked familiar --- very familiar. Marjorie took a photo of it. Here's Emily's painting (on the left) and our photo, posted on this gallery in 2004 and covered by our copyright, on the right. Neither have been cropped in any way. Look familiar? Look at the collar end, the shoulders, teeth, markings on the nose.

Whitecroft Decking238 viewsThird time lucky? The first deck was built of teak and painted with special marine deck paint. It was incredibly slippery. The second deck was built of soft wood and stained, but the paint kept peeling off (you can see the latest coat on the right hand side -- the grey paint applied in 2003). The new decking is guaranteed for 25 years. Installed in August 2005, so we have until August 2030. I will be 81.
