Martley Parish Church cemetery241 viewsOld gravestones are used as a retaining wall for the soil around this tree. I realise that "topple" is a problem with gravestones in British cemeteries, but using old stones as a wall seems a bit unfortunate to me.

Garden Path at Kealaolu Avenue, Kahala392 viewsNana and my mother, Shirley, examining the flowers on the garden path at Kealaolu Avenue in Kahala. My guess is this is from the mid 1940's. Nana and Baba sold their Kealaolu Avenue house circa 1947, and felt they had enough money to move into a hotel for the rest of their lives. And that's what they did: they moved into the Niumalu Hotel, on the site of the present Hilton Hawaiian Village. That lasted about a year.

Shoe Shine Boy908 viewsBaba (my maternal grandfather) loved to build make-believe forts for me, using rope and blankets. Here I am with a fort, but I seem to be preoccupied with the shining of shoes. I think the radio (is that what it is?) in the background is amazing.

Kiko With the Veal Bone574 viewsWe took Kiko to the Lygon Arms in Broadway for afternoon tea. The hall porter asked if Kiko would like a bone, and of course the answer was yes. This large veal bone was produced from the soup stock, still warm, on a Lygon Arms plate. Kiko was pleased. December 2005

Sunapee Harbor - New Hampshire4086 viewsWe took the dogs for a Memorial Day drive. In the middle of the countryside we saw a small sign pointing to Sunapee Harbor. Although miles from the sea, we found this lovely "seaside" New England harbor, complete with a seafood restaurant on the water. Gorgeous.May 28, 2012
