During the late Hellenistic and Imperial period local worthies engaged in what seems to us now a fantastic orgy of construction, carving Greco-Roman faades from the living rock. Marjorie gave me a trip to Jordan on the Concorde for my 40th Birthday. Our first stop was Aqaba, where they had a reception for us. Most passengers had a lot to drink, and there were a lot of poorly passengers on the hot bus in the later afternoon.
