Waiting For Me To Throw The Ballvu 138 foisThe black Labradors look like strange lawn ornaments, or those prarie dogs that pop up out of the ground.

Honolulu Airportvu 361 foisI can only guess at the date of this photograph -- late 1950's or early 1960's. The old Honolulu Airport terminal is behind the PanAm airplane. I love the PanAm attendants doing things at the gate itself. No air bridges. My father with Nana: not sure who's going where.

Pan Am StratoCruiser Aircraft - Honolulu Airportvu 472 foisI remember flying from Honolulu to Bangkok, most of it via StratoCruiser. We dressed for the flight. There was a lounge downstairs, which we reached via a spiral staircase. We flew Honolulu - Wake - Guam - Manila - Hong Kong and then on to Bangkok.

Marjorie Crossing A Bridge in Viet Namvu 199 foisOn our trip to Viet Nam, before there were lots of tourists.

Marjorie and the Viet Cong in the Cu Chi Tunnelsvu 339 foisThe Cu Chi tunnels, a 75-mile-long underground maze where thousands of fighters and villagers could hide, are at the top of the list of tourist spots for Ho Chi Minh City. Marjorie was able to crawl through the lower levels (I'm too big). There was also this "photo op" spot, complete with fake rice bowls.

Cu Chi Tunnels, Viet Namvu 303 fois"The tunnels themselves are undeniably impressive. Throughout the war, the South Vietnamese Communists, or Vietcong, continually expanded the three-level network, which included mess halls, meeting rooms, an operating theater and even a tiny cinema."
cao-dai.jpg
Cao Dai Temple, Viet Namvu 373 fois"Indigenous to Vietnam Cao Dai is a fusion of the best from Taoism, Buddhism and Confucianism, with Christianity and Islam thrown in for good measure. Cao Daoism was founded in Vietnam only as recently as the 1920's as the answer to the ultimate ideal religion and insists that its' earth-based intermediaries or messengers include such luminaries as William Shakespeare, Joan of Arc and Napoleon Bonaparte."
cao-dai2.jpg
Cao Dai Temple, Viet Namvu 440 fois"Cao Dai actually means "palace or high tower", which is suitably apt. Built in 1927, the massive nine-story Cao Dai Temple is part cathedral and part pagoda. It is also a rude assault on your eyeballs."
cao-dai1.jpg
Cao Dai Temple, Viet Namvu 304 fois"The central philosophy of Cao Daism pertains to the duty that the faithful perform for themselves, their family, society and the world at large. Much like Confucianism, this element of the Philosophy pertains to how the individual functions within the context of the community."

Marjorie, our Guide, and a Huey UH-1 Helicopervu 473 foisAt the entrance to the Cu Chi tunnels, they had an old Huey helicopter in a sort of concrete pit, surrounded by rusting barbed wire.

Huey Helicopter at the Cu Chi Tunnels, Viet Namvu 2623 foisThis old Huey UH-1 was at the entrance to the Cu Chi tunnels in Viet Nam. Our guide felt very awkward about this --- and I'd be surprised if it's still there.
