Electronic Innards of Stable Gatevu 544 foisI asked Gregorz to please remove the cover to the stable gate equipment this afternoon, and this is what we found. I believe this is the radio-control equipment, as well as a step-down transformer for the gate motor. It's been mounted about eight inches above the ground, but is always covered by a thick black cover. Gregorz had to remove a few screws to reveal the "innards."28 Mars 2007

Stable Gate at Lucies Farmvu 695 foisPhotographed from the stable yard, looking down our track (with Gregorz manually latching the gate). The motor that should open and close the gate is on the right in this photograph. As is shown, the gate is exposed to the elements, and wind coming down the track and from the neighbour's field hits the gate staight on.28 Mars 2007

Latch on Stable Gatevu 709 foisThis Came electronic latch was installed by Automation Gates in early 2005. The stable gate is exposed to direct wind, and the installers indicated that the wind on the gate was breaking the arm that connected the gate with the motor. At the same time, the motor was replaced with a different --- and presumably better --- motor. The latch meant that when the gate closed it would be supported, against the wind, on both ends. But the latch didn't always engage --- usually because of the wind.28 Mars 2007

Stable Gate at Lucies Farmvu 706 foisLooking from the latch end towards the motor. This motor, installed in early 2005 to replace an earlier motor, is mounted on a separate, metal gate post, and it opens and closes the gate (or at least it did, before it was broken by the windstorm) using the metal arm.28 Mars 2007

Stable Gate at Lucies Farmvu 652 foisPhotographed from the track, as though arriving at the gate. It opens inward (the motor is on the left in this photograph, latch on the right). The stable yard lies within. The two strands of wire on the top of the gate are part of the Gallagher electric fence system which surrounds Maggot's Croft.28 Mars 2007

Motor and Arm -- Stable Gatevu 579 foisThis is the motor and arm that open and close (when they work, which they now don't) the stable gate. The wires and conductors on top of the gate and fence are unrelated to the automation system --- they are part of the Gallagher electric fence system --- to keep foxes out.28 Mars 2007
