Ho Chi Minh City "Museum of War Remnants" with a Helicoptervista 244 vecesFrom the New York Times of July 1999: "The city's Museum of War Remnants, with its displays of captured weapons and its catalog of horrors, only recently amended its name, with changing times, from the Museum of American War Crimes." We were there before it changed its name. Our guide didn't want to take us, and felt very awkward about it all.

Marjorie With a Tank at the Museum in Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Namvista 213 vecesWe read about this museum and were curious. We had to specifically ask our guide to take us. There was nobody else there. The whole museum was dusty and forgotten, something left over (barely) from another time, another place. I'd be surprised if it's still there.

The View From Our Hotel in Northern Norwayvista 287 vecesThe brown industrial building is the rest of our hotel. We were in the "annex" on the top of the hill. Can you imagine four (or so) months of cold darkness here?
cao-dai-eye1.jpg
Cao Dai Temple Eye - Tay Ninh, Viet Namvista 5116 veces"There are eyes throughout the massive temple that stare down, unblinkingly. The eye symbolizes God as He appeared in the first vision establishing the Cao Dai faith in 1926."
cao-dai-altar.jpg
Cao Dai Temple -- Tay Ninh, Viet Namvista 5612 vecesShowing the altar and the unblinking eye, which "symbolises the divine presence of God."
cao-dai-eye.jpg
Unblinking Eye -- Cao Dai Temple, Viet Namvista 6237 vecesThe unblinking eye is the symbol of the Cao Dai faith, founded in 1926 in Viet Nam. "Cao Dai venerates a host of different figures including Victor Hugo, Sun Yat Sen, and Trangh Trinh, a 16th century Vietnamese poet and philosopher. Its ethics are based in the belief in the reincarnation of the soul." There are 7 to 8 million adherents, mostly in Viet Nam.

Cao Dai Temple -- Tay Ninh, Viet Namvista 847 vecesFor more information click here. The official website, as best I can tell, is here. Marjorie and I visited the temple, which is near Ho Chi Minh City, on our visit to Viet Nam.

Marjorie Enjoying a "Sundowner" on the Mekong Rivervista 262 vecesTaking a sunset boat ride on the Mekong, near Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam.
marjorie-vegas.jpg
Marjorie Waiting For Our Car in Las Vegasvista 250 vecesAt the MGM Grand Hotel. Note that Marjorie is holding some dollar bills in her right hand -- you need to be ready with the tips in Las Vegas.
on-the-dock.jpg
Marjorie and Chase on the Dockvista 291 vecesSomewhere in the Caribbean, one of the stops on our Windstar cruise. Summer 1992
norweigan-fijord.jpg
Norweigan Fijordvista 588 vecesPhotographed on our vacation in Norway. One of the things that surprised us was that the place was deserted --- even though it was summer. Where was everyone? There's a glacier in the "V" in the background.2 commentarios
