Magnolia With Flying Insectvista 177 vecesI love magnolias. The only problem is that these huge flowers seem to fall apart: in doing so they avoid being cut from the tree and put in a vase. Wonderful big petals, and a great smell that, at least in this case, attracted a small flying insect of some sort.

Marjorie in Her Office Windowvista 140 vecesMe shouting from below, "When's lunch??" Do you think we have enough wires in the back of our computer server?
boat1.jpg
A Summer Afternoon on the Lakevista 169 vecesOkay, more of a pond. But at least our paddle boat has an electric engine.

Chasing the Ducksvista 151 vecesThe ducks can paddle much, much faster than our little electric paddle boat.
dog-bench.jpg
The "Back" Gardenvista 165 vecesOne of our doggie ball-playing areas. The bench is where Pau and Kea are buried. I feel their presence whenever I'm out there.
marjorie-richard.jpg
Marjorie and Richard Chamingsvista 143 vecesRichard was coming to try to sedate our new wild boar, and operate on his prolapse. What a way to spend a sunny summer afternoon.
moustache.jpg
Scary Photo -- Really Scaryvista 259 vecesI hadn't shaved in a while, so had a big white beard --- but my moustache stayed black and swarthy. I decided to keep the Tom Sellick look, but (fortunately) Marjorie was having none of it. My swarthy moustache was gone a minute later. I'm surprised how much I look like my father --- even down to his droopy eyelids and uneven eyes. Poor Shauna has the same problem. Strabismus in the genes!
decking.jpg
Whitecroft Deckingvista 184 vecesThird time lucky? The first deck was built of teak and painted with special marine deck paint. It was incredibly slippery. The second deck was built of soft wood and stained, but the paint kept peeling off (you can see the latest coat on the right hand side -- the grey paint applied in 2003). The new decking is guaranteed for 25 years. Installed in August 2005, so we have until August 2030. I will be 81.
A-English-Rose.jpg
Yellow English Rosevista 185 vecesNear the dog resort, sunny late summer afternoon, mid-September.
A-pool.jpg
Pool and Back Garden at Whitecroftvista 182 vecesWe've had the pool liner replaced, again. Haven't actually put a toe in the outside pool since 1996 or so. It's been quite a chore to get it clean --- lots of ugly algae and other things. Looks like we'll have it ready --- in time for autumn.
penrith10.jpg
Marjorie Outside The Toffee Shop in Penrithvista 181 vecesI found their fudge (which is actually Scottish tablet) at a little gourmet grocery store in Cirencester a few years ago. We've bought their fudge at Fortnum & Mason and even Lakeland since then. As we were near Penrith, we thought we'd stop in and buy some fresh fudge and toffee. You can also order via their website.
ullswater3.jpg
Ullswater, in the English Lake Districtvista 171 vecesUllswater is the second largest lake in the English Lake District. Marjorie and I visited very, very briefly on our way back to Whitecroft, September 24 2005.
