Dave the Dog - His Cake as It Arrived331 viewsHere's the "after" picture of Dave the Dog's birthday cake, courtesy of DHL. We attached the cake to the cake board, attached the cake board to the cake box, attached the cake box to the inner box (shown). The inner box was then packed in an outer box, and the space between the two filled with crumpled newspaper. But DHL clearly gave the box a good toss around the depot, despite the "fragile - dog cake" labels on the outside.

Merlin -- A bit of Guernsey | Kobe6066 viewsWe recently purchased Carole, a pure-bred Guernsey cow, as our "house cow." The farmers who sold us Carole are getting out of the dairy business, so their bull, Merlin, was set to go to the chop. The Guernsey Cattle Society tells me Guernsey beef is delicious, so Merlin has had a bit of a reprieve. He gets to eat grain and grass and drink beer --- for a year.

Saturday Morning Breakfast - Home Made Pancakes with Worms362 viewsOne of our week-end treats is to have pancakes with "real" (i.e. fake) maple syrup. Marjorie cooked up a batch on Saturday. They looked good, but my first bite felt, er, "crunchy." I looked down on my plate and saw this little critter. Where had it come from?! A further search yielded a veritable collection of moths which we seem to have imported in some dates or nuts from Dubai. Yum, yum. We had toast and spring cleaned the cupboard!!
