Marjorie in the City of Petra, Jordan - 1989266 viewsThe city of Petra grew rich from the spice trade. During the late Hellenistic and Imperial period local worthies engaged in what seems to us now a fantastic orgy of construction, carving Greco-Roman faades from the living rock. Marjorie stands near a few stone pillars.

Marjorie in Padstow, Cornwall (Apr 27 04)316 viewsMarjorie and I went to Rick Stein's Seafood Restaurant for our 18th Anniversary, and spent the night in Padstow. We took a stock trailer and rented pick-up, and then headed to Torquay to pick up Lord Rannoch --- the bull --- from the stud farm. It was "crisp" in Padstow.

Installing The New Fence191 viewsNigel Roberts from Albion Fencing installing the new wooden fence beneath our oak tree to close this gap in the hedge. The hege bushes didn't grow: this area was once a small pond (beofre our time) so it's possible the pond was filled with builders' rubble. There was also a hole in the wire fence in this area, so sheep may have nibbled our hedge when it was young. The gap is closed now.

The Canal Path715 viewsA bit overgrown along what I call "the canal path," so this photo doesn't really show the water. We had to put the temporary wire fence in (left of photograph) as the dogs kept going into the water and duck weed. I took this photo to show the garden centre our empty trellis on the right. We've had honeysuckle there (yuck), and roses that haven't grown well. Marjorie wants a purple flower we've seen in our rambling.

Cu Chi Tunnels, Viet Nam332 views"The tunnels themselves are undeniably impressive. Throughout the war, the South Vietnamese Communists, or Vietcong, continually expanded the three-level network, which included mess halls, meeting rooms, an operating theater and even a tiny cinema."

Sunapee Harbor - New Hampshire4077 viewsWe took the dogs for a Memorial Day drive. In the middle of the countryside we saw a small sign pointing to Sunapee Harbor. Although miles from the sea, we found this lovely "seaside" New England harbor, complete with a seafood restaurant on the water. Gorgeous.May 28, 2012
