Marjorie at the Hotel Metropole, Hanoi281 viewsHanoi hadn't welcomed many tourists when we visited. We had reservations at another hotel -- built by Cubans -- and it was awful. We learned that the Hotel Metropole had just been refurbished and it was day one of its "soft" opening. We were there in a flash. Even in Hanoi Marjorie managed to fill a shopping bag.

I've included it anyway because I thought the bedside table is interesting. I love the old dial telephone, the 1950's shoji lamps. But my favourite thing is the bottle of lager and cigarettes. I never remember my grandmother drinking --- but larger! How images can be shattered through the magnification power of Adobe Photoshop.
