New Lord's Wood Gate312 viewsSome neighbours objected to our green burial planning application because they thought --- incorrectly --- that Lord's Wood was some sort of community "amenity." It is, in fact, our private property, and contains no public footpaths. To demonstrate this, we have reluctantly put up an electric fence and gate at the entrance.

Lord's Wood Fence and Gate279 viewsOur insurance company has asked us to please keep folks out of the woods. We have tried to do so gently, but some people have felt we were somehow in the wrong. "I've walked my dog here for 25 years," was a typical response. Alas, if you run red lights all the time, the policeman will still give you a ticket if he sees you doing so.

Lord's Wood Electric Gate606 viewsWe have a green burial forum where you can post your comments and questions. If you don't like the new electric gate, or have other suggestions, etc. --- please post them on our forum. Simply visit www.luciesfarm.com/green. Or you can always e-mail me: craig@luciesfarm.com

My Telephone and My Date Stamp121 viewsI was playing with the new underwater digital camera and took a photo of my telephone, my turquoise date stamp, my electric stapler, and a nice cold glass of ice tea that Marjorie brought me. My date stamp clicks the minutes away with a reassuring regularity.

Power Cables in Our Track119 viewsOn the afternoon of August 23 2006 there was a huge downpour punctuated with thunder and lightning. Then the power went off. Normally the cause of an electrical failure is somewhere distant and unknown. But on the 23rd the downed cables were in our track. Repairing the cables looked like it would take two weeks --- but it took about six hours.

The Electric Meter Reader116 viewsThe electric meter reader arrived and couldn't find the meter. I had to hobble down the track and show him that it's a little door that's part of the fence. Fortunately, he had a key to open the door. (We've asked Scottish Power for a key about a dozen times, and they keep sending us the wrong key.) By the way, doesn't everybody take a photograph of the meter reader guy?

Early November sunset137 viewsI was at my desk and Kiko barked (once) at the conservatory door to be let in. I looked over and he was bright red. I thought he'd fallen into some sort of paint, and then I saw he was red from the sunset. I got my camera and my cane and hobbled around the garden taking these photographs. I've lived at Whitecroft since 1989, and it was the most gorgeous sunset I've seen. Thanks, Kiko.

Driving Across The New Bridge127 viewsHeading home to Whitecroft across the New Bridge (over the Severn), with the sun setting over the Malvern Hills. What bright spark thought this gorgeous view could be improved by the presence of large electricity distribution cables and towers?

Sunset, Malvern Hills, Electricity Cables375 viewsHeading down the A449 towards Malvern. the Malvern Hills are on the left, the sun in the middle, and some ugly electric cables on the right.

Helicopter Overhead250 viewsTapa started barking the other night, and when he and I looked outdoors, there was a helicopter hovering across the street, pointing its searchlight about. It then went down our track, and away past the back field. I learned the next morning that there had been police cars and dogs chasing someone. The fugitive tried to get over our gate -- but the top is electrified (to keep foxes out). This is a photo of the helicopter.

Maggot's Croft253 viewsThe various pig fields of Maggot's Croft, with the stable yard in the foreground. We are getting ready to re-seed the first paddock. The second paddock holds our Berkshire pigs, and the third paddock holds our wild boar. The entire area is surrounded by an electric fence.
