Highland Cow & Calf and Highland Steervu 167 foisAfter we got the cow and calf into the trailer, they began the drive to their new home on a hilltop in South Wales. The steer UK302940500041 has been moved into a stable so we can hopefully socialise him a bit.

Is This Worcestershire? Or the Maasai Mara?vu 198 foisWe couldn't catch the Highland cow or Highland steer having tried everything. We finally called the West Midland Safari Park and Bob Lawrence, their Head Warden, came out to assist us "dart" the cattle. This photo was taken in sunny Worcestershire on a December afternoon --- not the Mara.

Bob Lawrence Using Air Rifle To Shoot the Steervu 207 foisThis is actually the moment that the dart hit the steer (UK302940500041). You can see him losing his step on the right of the photograph, with the red tip of the dart showing. Bob Lawrence, from the West Midland Safari Park, has just fired the air rifle.

A Highland Cow Having a Swig of Beervu 229 foisOur beef cattle are raised in the traditional Kobe style -- they are fed beer and grain. Normally, they don't like the "fizz" in the beer, so prefer it if we pour it over the grain and let it sit for a few hours. But this was a hot spring day, and this cow quite enjoyed the cold beer right from the bottle.

|
Dinner Timevu 220 foisWe usually feed the cattle and the pigs separately, in troughs on opposite sides of the field. But today was "photo" day, so we fed them together. And they happily shared their feed.
